Celtic & Medieval Stonework Sculpture

My work is inspired by traditional Pictish and Celtic images, and pivotal moments in Celtic history.  As I child I loved to visit castles, cathedrals and museums, which inspired me to use a medium that was used then, and a technique that was available to the artisans of that period. In this way I capture the historical significance of the work and participate in methods in keeping with the work’s subject matter.

I carve my original sculpture in gypsum then cast in cement fondue using an 18th century process.  This all-natural medium creates fine, delicate detail.  Each piece is distinctively marbled, created by mineral colouring, and is enhanced by using the stone polishing technique of hand waxing and bristle buffing.

I have created several designs in the 3" diameter size, priced at $15.  These would include the Small Cladagh, Shamrock, Anchor on the Rock, Horse Portrait.

Next size up is the 7" diameter plaque, of which there are over 25 different designs, priced at $45.  These include historic seals such as the Knights Templar, Robert the Bruce, and the Book of Kells, and my own patterns of Celtic design.

The larger plaques range from 10" to 16", from $60 - $95 and cover subjects such as heraldic shields, Clan badges, and knot work patterns.  Also in my collection are 3D works starting at $50 up to $125, such as The Darwin.

All prices include tax.  Please refer to my website (www.celtmss.com/shop) for postal rates.
